Port Austin’s avenues are lined with
numerous homes built a century ago. Within one block of one
another are three beautifully restored Bed & Breakfast Inns.
The Garfield Inn was a favorite summer retreat
of President Garfield and shares the honor of being a National
Historic Site with The Bank 1884, a popular
restaurant on main street.
The
Port Austin Reef Lighthouse built in 1884 is located 2.5 miles
offshore. A dedicated group of lighthouse lovers adopted it
in the 1980’s and began its restoration and preservation,
which is perpetual.
The harbor at Port Austin is a popular
cruise destination on the east shore of Lake Huron. It was
completed in 1990 when a new rock breakwall was built that
offered protection from easterly winds. Modern day yachts,
with increased fuel capacity and high performance depart metropolitan,
down-
state areas and cruise to Port Austin where they layover and
refuel, then step off for points north such as Mackinaw Island
or Georgian Bay.
Boaters from all areas visit the port to have lunch and dinner
in popular area restaurants within walking distance of the
dock.

Fishing for Chinook Salmon, Lake Trout, Perch and Walleye
is enjoyed by thousands of visitors to Port Austin each year.
